Asbestos Surprise

During my tenure in charge of the Miami-Dade County Asbestos Program, I was surprised at the lack of understanding of asbestos and its laws by engineers, architects and contractors. Some do not know that quite a few construction materials can still be legally obtained and placed in service, or that the possibility of mesothelioma is only attributable to asbestos exposure. Proper trouble free demolitions and renovations should start with both the engineering and architectural design phases. By that, I mean no fines, no accidental public or worker exposure to asbestos fibers, no unnecessary delays or cease and desist orders and no lawsuits.

Most total or partial demolition of buildings, with or without asbestos, requires notification to the government. These PDHs or CEUs will explain.
